He could be a rake if he means only to steal a kiss but steals your heart as well.
Nearing thirty, the Duke of Rathburne is finally ready to make amends for the wager that caused him and his best friends such scandal, but taking on a ward who needs a husband is a feat he’s not sure he can manage. The last he saw of Miss Marlena Fast, she was a spirited little ruffian, not the sort of bride most bachelors on the marriage mart sought. But one glance at the lovely lady she has become is enough to convince him otherwise…
Orphaned young and shuffled from family to family, Marlena counts on her fierce independence and quick wits to keep herself content. Being the responsibility of a notoriously wicked duke who upended so many lives is an unexpected challenge when she realizes he arouses her decidedly feminine desire. Marlena must be careful. She has her own scandalous secret to protect. If he finds out, will it shatter her chances of a happily-ever-after with the notorious rake?

Interview

with Amelia Grey

1.     Please tell us something unique about you that we can’t learn from your bio.

I enjoy sending hand-written cards to people.  I like to buy beautiful cards to have on hand for when I want to send a thank you, a word of encouragement, a birthday wish, or congratulations for someone’s success.  I take buying cards very seriously and prefer blank ones, but most of them are not.  I buy ones with verses but I always add my own words before mailing to anyone.  I can spend hours looking at cards and always have quite a collection to choose from, waiting for the perfect person and reason to send it.

2.     What’s your favorite part of writing?

Coming up with the romantic conflict.  Once I have that established, the rest falls into place. For example:  In my current book, It’s All About the Duke, Rath becomes Marlena’s guardian. That means he won’t allow himself to pursue her romantically. His honor is at stake. She anonymously writes a scandal sheet that has pestered him for years.  Marlena can’t give in to her love for him because she would have to tell him she was the gossip columnist. She can’t do that because it would mean betraying someone else.

3.     What’s the strangest thing you’ve learned while researching a book?

I’m not sure strange is the word I would associate with Megalosaurus eggs but it certainly was interesting to research fossilized dinosaur eggs and bones for It’s All About the Duke. This was the perfect book to have a minor character who was an artifact and fossil collector. I had to use the name Megalosaurus because it was used before the word dinosaur which wasn’t used until the 1830s. The Royal Society first thought the giant reptile bones to be from Roman military elephants.

4.     If you could live in one of your stories, which one would you choose and why?

It would have to be The Duke In My Bed.  The heroine in the book has four younger sisters. And, I have four sisters so it was a fun book to write for me. I made the hero an only child of parents who were the only child in their families. The hero learns a lot about sharing, patience, and love from the heroine and her sisters.  The book has some really cute scenes in it and a beautiful romance, too.

5.     What stories do you have in the works right now?

I am currently writing on the first book of my new trilogy.  The series title and title for the first book hasn’t been confirmed.  But here is a short synopsis of the story: Adeline, the young Dowager Countess of Wake, has no need, nor desire to marry again. One husband is enough for her.  With the help of her two widowed friends, she starts a school for disadvantaged girls. Adeline’s life is full and she’s quite happy until she meets the dashing future Earl of Marksworth. Suddenly he has her desiring passionate kisses and longing for intimate caresses. Adeline won’t consider becoming a wife again, but she will dare to have an affair with him.
