[Review] Size Matters - Alison Bliss

Summary: Leah Martin has spent her life trying to avoid temptation. But she's sick of low-fat snacks, counting calories, and her hyper-critical mom. Fortunately, her popular new bakery keeps her good and distracted. But there aren't enough éclairs in the world to distract Leah from the hotness that is Sam Cooper - or the fact that he just told her mother that they're engaged . . . which is a big, fat lie.

Sam sometime speaks before he thinks. So what started out as defending Leah's date-ability to her judgmental mother soon turned into having a fiancee! Now the plan is to keep up the fake engagement, stay "just friends," and make Leah's family loathe him enough to just call the whole thing off . But Sam has an insatiable sweet tooth, not only for Leah's decadent desserts but her decadent curves. Her full lips. Her bright green eyes. Yep, things aren't going quite according to plan. Now Sam has to convince Leah that he's for real . . . before their little lie turns into one big, sweet disaster. (Pub Date: Nov 29, 2016)

This was your everyday romance book with a little more: great dialogues, lots of humor and perfect scenes with the family.

I'd say this is a 3-star-plus type of book.

Leah and Sam meet during a disastrous night, when he can't say a word without being misinterpreted as offensive, especially after he ditches Leah for a thinner woman. Still, they end up meeting again, and before Leah can stop him, Sam is taking her side against her ex-boyfriend and introducing himself as her fiancé. To her distress, his story reaches her mother's ears. Now they'll have to spend a weekend together with her whole family, find a way to make her family hate him and for them to break up a engagement that looks more and more like a match made in heaven.

I really like the pretend-engagement act, and the way it all began was so funny I don't think I'll forget any time soon. Also, this story touches the subject on self-esteem. Sam was just adorable how he would never think before defending Leah. Most of their mess was caused by this, so in no way we could ever get angry at him.

I did think there was too much complaining... I think Sam took too long to even consider his feelings. In a way, the author could have made some more obstacles instead of trusting the inner dilemmas alone. I was glad, on the other hand, how even feeling they were whining too much I was never really irritated at this. After all, the sooner they opened their hearts this lovely book would end, and I really didn't want it.

This was also a very fast read. The pace was great, the scenes delightful. Once I got into the book, and this was so quick I can't remember around what percentage I was, I just couldn't put it down.

So I don't think you'll regret if you're into this kind of romance. I wouldn't recommend to those who don't like the genre, as this book didn't have much special. But if romance is your thing, you really shouldn't miss this lovely story.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
