Excerpt:
“I wish…I don’t know.” Chase shook his head. “I wish that we’d known each other back then.”
“Impossible, since we’re from different worlds. You know keepers only exist in their home-worlds, Chase.” Alyx shrugged, hands splayed in front of her. “And anyway, you wouldn’t have liked me. In fact, you wouldn’t have even noticed me.”
“That’s not true…”
“Yes, it is. You were busy with games, your friends. Sports. Girls. We weren’t interested in the same things at all.” Alyx looked away. “Truthfully, I wouldn’t have noticed you, either.”
“It’s true, we were raised very differently.” He took a step forward, and didn’t continue until her eyes met his. “But I definitely would have noticed you,” he said with a gentle hand squeeze.
Heat climbed up her cheeks until she thought maybe her hair would go up in flames. “None of that matters, anyway.”
“No. Because I know you now. That’s all that matters.” He winked, then began leaning forward until their lips barely brushed.

Kristen L. Jackson lives in Reading, PA, with her husband, two grown sons, and four large-breed dogs. She has been a teacher for over 20 years, and writing for children of all ages is close to her heart.
