When you think this is one of those seen-one-seen-them-all, it catches you and betrays your expectations in a great way.
Hana needs to attend a meeting with some rich boy whose family wants him to marry her sister. The problem is that her sister is too busy. So Hana tries to pretend she is her, only the rich boy Takane is so overbearingly rude she gives up and walks out on him. Her attitude made an impression on him, though, and maybe being with Takane isn't that bad. Now, how will she tell him she is not the girl he was supposed to meet?
This is the first time I read a manga to review so I should say I'm truly grateful for the trust VIZ Media deposited in me. At the same time, I'm not sure what is the usual points a manga reviewer would observe, so let's go with my guts.
I love shoujo manga and the cliché that the summary made this one seem to be was the reason I choose it. It looked like a safe bet but still fun enough. Only it goes much farther, because the more the situation seems to be a commonplace, the more different Hana and Takane react. I couldn't stop laughing! This is a mangaka who knows how to catch you by surprise with a clever comment. My favorite moment (or moments) is when Hana's friends celebrate getting names.
The story so far is very lighthearted and quick to read, but the characters make such an impression I grew to love each of them from the first character. Also, I read this was supposed to be a one-shot story but was turned into a novelized series. Which means the events happen in a great speed instead of leaving us wanting and also that I, who just called the situations a cliché, have no idea what the mangaka's intentions are the next volume. But I'm sure to keep reading it.
The drawing isn't beautiful or anything special so far, but each chapter has a comical strip in the end, parody style, don't you miss them. They're precious!
Last but not least I'm in love with how Hana and Takane interact. There's no tsundere girl who can't be honest, there's no pride-her-than-the-moon playboy. They're quite honest characters and it'll be a pleasure watching their love grow.
Honest review based on an ARC provided by Edelweiss. Many thanks to the publisher for this opportunity.
